N.C. Beach Town Unanimously Approves Ban on Thongs

If you haven't been able to find the time to hit the gym as hard as you might have liked this spring, consider spending your summer vacation on North Carolina's Kure Beach. You'll have an excuse to keep things covered up. The town's supervisors voted unanimously last week to ban skimpy bathing wear on their part of North Carolina's Pleasure Island. Anyone found wearing a thong will be fined $25. "Everything we do is family oriented. We like the small town atmosphere," Mayor Dean Lambeth told CNN. "You can do what you want to in your own space, but for public decency, keep it off the public beach." According to Lambeth, support has been pouring in from all over the United States in the form of e-mails and phone calls since the policy was announced. "I'm getting calls from New York, California that they are glad somebody is finally taking a stand for public decency," Lambeth told CNN. Despite the widespread support, Lambeth wouldn't be surprised if liberals took him to court to reverse the policy. "You can file a suit—the way this country is leaning so far left, it wouldn't surprise me," he told CNN. "They want to challenge it? They want to spend the money? Go for it."
