Did South Park go too far?

South Park Creators Told Muhammad Depictions Could Get Them Assassinated

Matt Stone and Trey Parker, the creators of South Park, have been using their popular Comedy Central program to attack people and places for years, but they may have finally gone too far. The U.S.-based Revolution Muslim warned Stone and Parker that their recent depiction of the Prophet Muhammad in a bear suit could see them "probably wind-up like Theo Van Gogh," the BBC reported. Van Gogh, a Dutch filmmaker, "was shot and stabbed to death in 2004 by an Islamist angered by his film about Muslim women." Comedy Central had no comment, but a follow-up episode had all references to Muhammad bleeped out of the cartoon program. The post on Revolution Muslim's Web site provided addresses of Stone and Parker's production office in California and the New York office of Comedy Central; it also included details about a home the two creators reportedly co-own. "We have to warn Matt and Trey that what they are doing is stupid and they will probably wind up like Theo Van Gogh for airing this show," the posting read. "This is not a threat, but a warning of the reality of what will likely happen to them." The post was signed by Abu Talhah Al-Amrikee, who "later told the Associated Press the posting was not an incitement to violence," according to the BBC.

  1. OK well South Park episodes have been getting dumber over the years. The cartoon has gone downhill so it doesnt surprise me that they would eventually get to something like this. However, South Park does have a warning before the show that no one should watch the show, a very smart move by the makers. I understand why the muslims would get angry, I am a Christian and the way they depict Jesus is not always flattering to me. I can understand the anger but honestly they are not worth the trouble to go find and kill just because of a cartoon.
