More on criticisms and interpretations of "Avatar"

Click on this link to read another article about the many many meanings people, including some critical of the film, have been drawing from "Avatar."  Are film-makers in any way responsible for anticipating the variety of interpretations their films lend themselves to?  Should they perhaps insert content to head off certain offensive or misleading interpretations?  What do you think?
